LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The Los Angeles Mission’s annual Easter Event was underway Friday.
Volunteers began preparing for a feast for more than 3,500 at 4:30 a.m. as well as organizing more than 1,000 Easter baskets and 2,000 pairs of new shoes and socks for the homeless on Skid Row.
The shoes were donated by etniessm, the world’s leading action sports footwear and apparel manufacturer. Etnies staff will also be on hand to ensure a proper fit for guests.
The Mission, located at 5th and Wall Street in downtown, also opened a foot washing tent staffed by medical personnel and volunteers.
In addition to the foot washing, which has both spiritual and practical applications for the homeless, foot exams were being provided by the Los Angeles Christian Health Centers.
Friday’s meal will last from 11:00 a.m. through 3 p.m.
